Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice

Warner Brothers

It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel. – Warner Brothers

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice is Zack Synder’s second addition to the DC Extended Universe. We’ve been waiting for this movie 3 years now and I will be honest this is not a perfect movie by any standards. This film certainly doesn’t deserve the terrible reviews it is getting and there are some amazing elements and I want to get those out now. The visuals, this film is visual amazing. The opening Bruce Wayne scenes are absolutely stunning. On top of the beautiful visuals the soundtrack for this movie is phenomenal, Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL collaborated on this one. The soundtrack itself embodies the action in the film and it will get you very excited. I personally have listened to the soundtrack 4 different times at the gym and nothing makes you feel more like Batman. On to the cast.

The cast for the most part were good. Ben Affleck stole the show, he is the greatest Batman we have ever seen on the big screen. Not only does he look the role with his physical presence he perfectly portrays the tragic psychology that is Batman. I would say Batman in the film is perfect aside from one minor problem, which is that he kills some criminals but I can get on board with it. For one he doesn’t kill all willy-nilly like the Punisher and its sort of like second hand murder so I can get behind it plus he is a seasoned Batman, he has been through some shit. And the fighting, wow the fighting it is like straight out of an Arkham game, exactly what we needed on the big screen. So in conclusion Batfleck was great, no compliments. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, I am a fan. She’s beautiful and plays the role well. Henry Cavill he is Superman, I like him. The big question though, Jesse Eisenberg is he any good? I thought he was awesome just not as Lex Luthor. The man was crazy and I enjoyed his character but not as Lex Luthor, at least not the one we know. I have heard some rumors that his father also Lex Luthor may show up and I can behind that. I would love Eisenberg as Lex Luthor’s crazy son. Jeremy Irons was a good Alfred, I like his snarky take at the role, not enough of him though.

Okay lets get to the bad. The plot it was a bit confusing, I would find myself getting lost at times in the convoluted plot. For the blu ray release there well be an ultimate edition with an additional 30 minutes of content and I am really hoping that will clear a lot of the plot holes up. Another problem I had with the film was that I felt some of the film could be a bit confusing to a non comic book fan, wasn’t a problem for me, could be a problem for you. But that also led to some good things, there were tons of reference and homage to comics especially The Dark Knight Returns. The fight, it was awesome and looked great but come on a movie called Batman vs. Superman should have more than 8 minutes of them fighting but that’s a minor complaint. My biggest problem though was the Justice League cameos. The nerd part of me absolutely fanboyed out because come on how awesome is it seeing The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman on the big screen but seriously it felt so forced and out of place. Another minor problem I felt was at times the filmed worried too much about setting up the extended universe than the plot itself but this is a problem in many movies, I am looking at you Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Anyways the movie isn’t nearly as bad as critics are saying and should be seen by any comic fans, this is the start of the DC Extended Universe it needs to do well.

I liked this movie, I’ve seen it twice and I’ll probably see it again in theaters. I give Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice a 6.5 out of 10 would watch again.
