So I have never seen Cloverfield but I just saw this movie and wow. Turns out you don’t even need to see Cloverfield to see this movie so it worked out in my favor. This movie is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and it is his debut. What a good maiden voyage? The movie is put together and cut very well. The cast also makes this movie, for the most part there is only three people in the movie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Michelle), John Goodman (Howard) and John Gallagher Jr (Emmett).
John Goodman absolutely stole the show, the man deserves an Oscar. He perfectly portrays the role of Howard. During the whole movie the audiences feelings towards Howard bounce back forth between this guy seems alright to he is a freaking psycho. For the majority of the movie you don’t know his motives and it is never really resolved but that’s what makes the character and movie so good. Everyone else does a good job, Emmett is a very likable character and you are always rooting for Michelle. Its important in a film like this with such a small amount of characters to have them as welly written as they are and the writers did a great job of fleshing them out.
The whole movie is enjoyable but the ending is spectacular and you will not see it coming. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat and it has motivated me to see Cloverfield. The two movies are not related but I’ve seen some crazy theories online how they are connected and I look forward to future installments in the Cloverfield franchise.
At this moment 10 Cloverfield Lane is one of my favorite movies of the year. I give 10 Cloverfield Lane a 9 out of 10, will watch again.
