Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. – Warner Brothers
It finally happened. DC made a a good movie. I figured I would get that out of the way right off the bat. Now I will admit I liked Suicide Squad when I first saw it but now it makes me sick even thinking about it. Wonder Woman is different, tomorrow when I wake up, I know I’ll still like Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins, who previously directed Monster. I was not familiar with her or any of her work before seeing this film. Patty Jenkins did an awesome job. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if she directs another DC movie. The camera work was excellent, the scenery and settings were gorgeous and the fights looked awesome. The action actually really reminded me of Zack Snyder film but that’s a good thing here. All and all Wonder Woman is a very good looking film.
Gal Gadot is back as Diana Prince and she’s a perfect Wonder Woman. She plays the role quite well. In this film especially, she is real good at conveying the naivety of Wonder Woman, who has never left Themyscira before. Chris Pine is Steve Trevor and let’s be real does Chris Pine ever do a bad job? The answer is no. Steve and Diana basically assemble a team in this movie and I quite like the team, solid actors. Solid acting all around.
We finally got a coherent plot in a DC movie too. I guess Man of Steel‘s plot isn’t really that bad. Anyways I really liked the story, it was an origin story but it was an origin story we needed. I loved all the Themyscira stuff and the explanations of the gods and mankind. The villain wasn’t the best villain in a movie but he wasn’t bad, he makes since as a villain. There’s actually a little misdirect in the movie that I did not see coming at all. The end was satisfying and left me wanting more.
Good characters. Good action. Good plot. Good movie.
Oh yeah this movie is actually light-hearted and fun too. Definitely the best movie of the DCEU so far. I’ve got my fingers crossed for Justice League and I’m really looking forward to Aquaman.
I give Wonder Woman a 9 out of 10, would watch again.
No post credits scene by the way.
