A Bad Moms Christmas

Under-appreciated and overburdened moms Amy, Kiki and Carla rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas. As if creating the perfect holiday for their families isn’t hard enough, they’ll have to do it while hosting and entertaining their own respective mothers when they come to visit. – STXfilms

A Bad Moms Christmas was written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the same team from the first. I’m kind of really surprised that a woman didn’t write this. I a 23 year old male cannot relate to a lot of the struggles the moms in the Bad Moms films have but I guess Lucas and Moore can. Moms actually seem to like these movies, I mean I like them too but if moms like ’em these guys are doing something right, wild.

A Bad Moms Christmas brings back the moms (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn) from last time but this time with the addition of their own moms (Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon.) A better title for this movie would have been 2 Many Moms , get it? 2 is a number but if you read it like too many moms it’s saying like there is a lot of moms but it is also the second movie. Genius, I know. In Bad Moms the moms were fed up with doing school related mom duties and decided to go against the norm causing some conflict with the PTA and other moms. Guess what this one is about. The moms are fed up with doing all the Christmas related mom duties and decide to go against the norm causing some conflict with their moms. Actually the movie is really about Mila Kunis and her mom but the first one was really only about her too. Yeah so this movie is basically a retread of the first one, almost beat for beat. But hey that doesn’t matter cause when it comes down to it comedies have one thing to do and that’s to make people laugh. Plus the story made way more sense than The Snowman.

This movie is funny like really funny. There’s dick jokes but there is not an abundance like in Baywatch.  A Bad Moms Christmas was smart about the use of dick jokes and most other jokes. Really what made this movie enjoyable and the first one enjoyable is the moms. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn just have incredible chemistry. You really believe them as friends and they bounce so well off of each other. Bad Moms 3 could just be the three of them sitting in a room for 90 minutes and I’m sure it would still be funny. Kathryn Hahn is a comedic powerhouse in this but everyone holds their own in it even Kenny G.

So I saw this movie at what AMC Theaters call “Girls Night Out.” I was probably 1 of 3 guys in the theater, the rest were women most likely moms. I laughed a lot during this movie, it’s raunchy, over the top and funny but damn the women in the theater were eating it up. Before the movie started the theater was loud and rowdy, something I didn’t expect from a theater of moms. Most moms I interact with do not act like the moms I encountered in the theater. It was like I was in a theater with 50 “bad moms” and I certainly do not believe that the women in the theater are that rowdy normally. I laughed at this movie and enjoyed it but to me it seemed like this movie meant so much more to the moms. Moms really do have a lot of pressure and the Bad Moms movies give them a way to alleviate all that stress with out being a “bad mom.” Moms need a franchise for them. If you can, take your mom to this movie I bet she’ll love it. I liked the movie but I’m certain the atmosphere made it all the more enjoyable for me.

A Bad Moms Christmas is a generic comedy sequel but it’s super fun. It is not the greatest movie ever but I guarantee you’ll laugh if you see it. And seriously take your mom, grandmother or any other mother you know to see it.

I give A Bad Moms Christmas a 6.9 out of 10, would watch again.
