Thor: Ragnarok

Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok–the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization–at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger–the Incredible Hulk!– Walt Disney Studios

Thor: Ragnarok was directed by Taika Waititi and written by Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost.

I’ve literally been waiting like 2 years to see this movie, ever since the reveal of gladiator Hulk at Comic Con. Thor: Ragnarok was my most anticipated movie of the year and I was not let down. I dunno what it is, it might be the luscious locks, the cool ass hammer or the use of Norse mythology but something about Thor captivates me. The Thor movies haven’t been that bad but Thor really needed his time to shine and Ragnarok was finally it.

Right of the bat, I fucking loved this movie. Before going into the theater Captain America: The Winter Solider was my favorite Marvel movie but once those credits rolled I knew Ragnarok now held that title. I imagine I looked like the Joker watching this movie, I just couldn’t stop smiling. Thor: Ragnarok is easily the funniest Marvel movie but the humor doesn’t distract from the story or action. It was all seamlessly blended together. I literally only have two complaints about this movie. One, there was no Infinity War trailer before the movie. And two, Hela said that she was the goddess of death way too many times. Other than those two grievances I thought Thor: Ragnarok was perfect.

Taika Waititi was the perfect man for the job. I haven’t seen any of his other movies but apparently they are good and funny. Two things I like in movies. But seriously this movie is wonderfully directed. Thor: Ragnarok has to be the most colorful Marvel movie, it was just like a Walt Simonson comic book. This movie is wonderfully shot, like there is some really cool ass visuals. Words cannot even describe them, so just look at this:

How cool that is? That photo above is just the tip of the iceberg. What I liked even better than the visuals was the comedy in the movie. Something like 80% of the movie was improv and I would say 80% of the jokes hit. If someone else directed Ragnarok I doubt it would’ve been this funny and the humor is one of the reasons why I loved it.

All the returning actors to the Thor series were spectacular. How can you picture anyone other than Chris Hemsworth as Thor or someone other than Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Exactly you can’t cause those dudes are perfect for their roles. There were a lot of familiar faces in Thor: Ragnarok but even more new faces. Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and  Taika Waititi as Korg, my new favorite MCU character. Hela was an interesting character with an interesting backstory. She was much more 3 dimensional than villains we’ve seen in the past and I doubt this is the last we’ve seen of her. Valkyrie was a badass. I friggen love Jeff Goldblum and he was hilarious as the Grandmaster. Skurge had one of the best character arcs in the movie, very rewarding. Like I’ve said this movie is very funny but Korg easily stole the show and brought some needed levity whenever he was on screen.

By the way you may not have noticed but the Hulk is in this movie. Just like Thor, Hulk has never really been given his time to shine. Ragnarok gave Hulk his time. Thor and Hulk together is like peanut butter and chocolate together. They just compliment each other. I keep saying this about everyone but Hulk was hilarious. Thor: Ragnarok is the best Hulk movie I’ve seen.

Alright that’s enough rambling on from me. I loved this movie. Don’t take my word for it though go see it yourself, you will not regret it. You’ll have a mighty good time, expect thunderous laughter.

I give Thor: Ragnarok a 10 out of 10, would watch again.

“Another day, another Doug.”
