Spider-Man 2 is Sam Raimi’s penultimate film in the Tobey Maguire film series. This time Peter Parker is out on his own, down on his luck but still Spider-Man. He faces his best villain in the series Otto Octavius, a man just as smart as Peter and more dangerous. I’m sure you’ve seen the movie so you know who Doc Ock is and you know who Spider-Man is. I think we can all agree Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man movie so far. But I think Spider-Man 2 is the best comic book movie. Yeah The Dark Knight is phenomenal, Logan is a beautiful film and Captain America: Civil War is just great but none of them feel like a comic book. Spider-Man 2 feels like a comic book. I’m gonna run you down a list of reasons why.
The man is building a sun in an apartment in New York. Obviously he can’t touch a sun with his bare hands. The next logical step for him is to build four mechanical arms attached to his spine. The arms even have A.I. But don’t worry there’s a chip in them so they don’t control his mind.
Spider-Man has to take an elevator and this man decides to pitch marketing ideas for Spider-Man’s brand. Easily one of my favorite scenes. It is so goofy and “comic booky.”
Peter Parker has given up being Spider-Man. Now he is just strutting around New York being his goofy self. Oh yeah Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head is playing in the background. Tell me this scene doesn’t feel like its out of a comic book.
What doctor sits down next you when you are in your undies? He seems like an alright doctor but that’s just insane to me. Also love this scene. Technically it might be in Spider-Man 2.1.
Aunt May smacks Joel McHales hand when he is trying to pocket a gold coin all while the bank is being robbed. Shortly after she also smacks Doc Ock’s head with an umbrella.
This whole damn scene screams comic book. He stops a train with a spider webs. The fight is just great in general. He is unmasked and the passengers stand together and protect him. Doc Ock swats them away like they are nothing. One of the best scenes in the whole movie.
Did I mention he was building a mini sun?
How about this outfit?
I think that’s enough do I really need more. The evidence is all laid out there for you. It’s clear Spider-Man 2 is the greatest comic book movie, maybe.
Don’t forget if you want to be like Spider-Man “eat your green vegetables.”
