The Strangers: Prey at Night was directed by Johannes Roberts and written by Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the first one.
Apparently, The Strangers is a movie that people like, I wouldn’t know I haven’t seen it. This is a sequel, 11 years later.
I did not care for this movie one bit, it wasn’t bad it was just kind of boring and made me want to see all but one of the characters die. The daughter, Kinsey played by Bailee Madison was the only remotely interesting character. She’s some kind of rebel girl, she’s like 16 and smokes cigarettes. For some reason that no one will tell us about, Kinsey is being sent off to boarding school. Kinsey is the reason they are even the on the trip. Her parents say they care about her immensely and are upset that she has to go away but it’s not like she actually has to go away, I feel like they just didn’t want to deal with her rebellious attitude, granted we have no idea what she did. Kinsey’s brother Mike seemed alright but he is a baseball jock and a huge wussy. Straight of the bat, Kinsey is the only one who seems like she would survive in a horror movie, she’s a bad-ass rebel. The acting was fine but nothing entertaining or interesting was written for anyone but Kinsey.
“The Strangers” listen to great 80’s music and kill people because they can. They have no motive at all, they just like killing. I believe that’s the same as the first one, so that checks out.
I was under the impression that this movie was supposed to be in a real world setting but I guess not. There are some very exaggerated scenes, like ones where people should be dead but they’re not or my personal favorite was the one where they’re in a trailer park with at least 40 different trailers and Kinsey randomly runs into one and a Stranger is in their waiting for her. There was absolutely no way the Stranger knew Kinsey was going to pick that one.
This movie wasn’t even remotely scary at all. There was maybe like two jump scares but everything else was the main characters being chased by the Strangers. Maybe if I cared about the characters I would’ve been scared for them but I just wanted the Strangers to catch up.
Maybe this movie sucked because it’s allegedly based on true events. But let’s be real the only true thing in this movie is that someone got killed in a trailer park once, probably.
The Strangers: Prey at Night is a boring, generic slasher movie. Maybe if I saw the first one I would’ve liked it. Regardless the movie sucked but the soundtrack was excellent.
I give The Strangers: Prey at Night a 4.5 out of 10, wouldn’t watch again.
